Tittmoning Castle, dating back to the 13th century and once a residence for the prince-archbishops, invites you to enjoy an entertaining and informative visit. In 23 historic rooms, featuring original floors and ceilings from the 17th century, the Rupertiwinkel Museum shows unique and important collections of folk art, antique tools once used by local craftsmen and farmers, magnificent stoves and paintings, commemorative hunting targets from the past four centuries, archaeological finds from pre- and early history, a room dedicated to the Sudeten Germans and much more.

The Rupertiwinkel Museum provides you with insights into the cultural diversity of the Rupertiwinkel and documents its close connection with significant historical events. Absolutely unique: an exhibition of some 130 commemorative hunting targets – Bavaria’s biggest collection of its kind spanning a period from 1600 to 1930. 

Other aspects of this extensive collection of exhibits from rural and town life further underscore the importance and the role of this museum in the region. They are divided into the following main themes:

  • objects of folk art, high-quality furniture
  • wrought-iron grave crosses from the Rupertiwinkel
  • tools and agricultural equipment
  • paintings (landscapes, portraits, town pictures)
  • magnificent stoves and valuable ceramics
  • Tittmoning hunting targets (1600 – 1930)
  • archaeological finds from early history, including a Roman mosaic floor
  • a room dedicated to the Sudeten Germans

The wide variety of exhibits makes this museum one of the most interesting of its kind in the Southeastern Bavaria region. The complete Rupertiwinkel Museum can only be visited as part of a guided tour. 

The museum’s so-called Troadkasten – the room which features antique tools, agricultural equipment and the hunting targets – is open daily between 1 and 5 PM from May 1 to October 3 and may be visited without being part of a tour.
